making the prototypes for industrial products involves both conceptual and sculptural skills
I would interview designers and engineers to identify the basic concepts underlying their ideas and rough sketches, and then sculpt prototypes to discuss with them (later, I would make industrial prototypes and moulds for these products) - but the initial prototypes themselves involved three-dimensional sculptural skills to create
in this capacity I am knowledgeable in sculpting prototypes out of many materials:
- wood
- plastic (eopxy and silicone)
- fibreglass
- reinschap (a German material)
- plaster
- aluminum
- bronze
- iron
- and other materials

beyond the foregoing, I also developed specific sculpture ideas for various corporate clients - birds, blue herons, fish, butterflies, bees, etc. in one instance
toys (toy blocks, toy boats, toy trucks, etc.) for another corporate client
rabbits, Caspar the Ghost, Santa Claus, shark figures etc. for other corporate clients

- eagle sculpture (sculpted in wax and then cast in duo-matrix within a silicone rubber mould)

mould making requires knowledge of mould construction - both outer shells (usually in rigid plastic) and interior detailed moulds (usually in epoxy and fibreglass) - and the many possible mould materials, including:
- epoxy
- plastic
- silicone rubber
- poly urethane
- hardener and resin systems
it also requires knowledge of casting techniques (methods for avoiding bubbles, etc.) and knowledge of de-moulding techniques
it also requires expertise in various moulding systems such as 'blow moulding' (plastic injection), vacuum forming, etc.

pattern making involves not only the prototype and mould, but initial conceptual analysis of the product (e.g., product modification which retains the functionality while reducing the cost of moulding and de-moulding, etc.) and design advice -it is easy to overlook the implications of the moulding technology on production costs
the full range of pattern making involves the creation of initial prototype moulds and subsequent production 'equipment' (being industrial strength moulds built to survive a million castings, including both exterior moulds and interior 'core boxes')
