Here are some guidelines on how to use this site. It's fairly intuitive and most of you will rarely have to visit this page. We used to stick all these instructions on the main pages. Big mistake! (:-( )

Folks got lost in the instructions and often never found their way into the content itself. We hope you'll find the removal of all instructions to this Help Page makes the site a lot cleaner.

Probably most recent browsers will work satisfactorily. But the ones I am familiar with are Netscape and Internet Explorer. The most recent free downloads can be obtained here:

Suggestions for browser settings

If you have a standard 640x480 screen, set your browser window to cover the whole screen. In Netscape you may want to turn off Toolbar, Location, and Directory Buttons under the Options Menu in order to maximize the window size for graphical and score viewing. In Internet Explorer you may want to turn off the Button Bar and Favorites Bar under the View Menu. If you have a larger screen you can ignore the last sentences. I assume you've already set the font to a comfortable size for your viewing. If not, you can adjust the font - in Netscape under Options/General Preferences/Fonts; in Internet Explorer font size under the View Menu and font face under Edit/Preferences/Web Browsers/Language-Fonts.

Some pages on this site contain large images or large MP3 soundfiles which take some time to download. The faster your modem, of course, the better.

Navigation tips for RodMer Arts

At the top of each page you'll see a navigation line like:

[ About | What's New | RodMer Home | Merike's Art | Rod's Music | RodMer Poetry Room
| Rodmer Short Story Room | SwallowHill | Links | Help ]

We hope this is fairly self-explanatory. Basically:

About -- will take you to a page telling you briefly about RodMer Arts (or about whatever principal section of the RodMer Arts site you are in).

What's New -- will take you to a page telling you what's new this season at RodMer Arts (or at whatever principal section of the RodMer Arts site you are in).

RodMer Home -- will take you to the home page of the entire RodMer Arts website (not just the particular section you are in)

Merike's Art -- will take you to the top page of the "Merike Lugus Art Gallery on the Web" -- the top page of the Merike's Art section of this website (presently in serious need of updating).

Rod's Music -- will take you to the top page of the Rod's Music section of this website.

RodMer Poetry Room (or sometimes just Poetry Room) -- will take you to the top page of the RodMer Poetry Room section of this website.

RodMer Short Story Room (or sometimes just Story Room) -- will take you to the top page of the RodMer Short Story Room section of this website.

SwallowHill -- will take you to Merike's & Rod's Personal Home Page -- the top page of the SwallowHill section of this website (presently in serious need of updating).

Links -- will take you to a page of art/lit/music-related links to sites elsewhere on the Web.

Help -- will take you to a Help page related to the particular section you are in or related to the whole of RodMer Arts (which is this page you're reading now). -- Hopefully it will answer most of your questions.

Just below the heading at the top of the page, you will see a Location line. This shows the page you are on now and its parent, grandparent, etc. -- just to orient you within the hierarchy of this site.

From time to time a link will open a second browser window (so you can read some comment while still seeing the original page you were on). Simply close this second browser window when you are finished with it.

Downloading Compressed Files

Some downloadable rtf files on this site are compressed (in .rtf.sitx format). You will need the free Stuffit Expander for decompressing the downloaded rtf.sitx files. The decompressed file will then be in rtf format, which your word processor can read and print.
