Composition date

This short 16-measure piece was composed in 2002 for my then 10-year-old grandson Pierre, who is studying classical guitar. It's a sort of étude for the lower strings -- and I'm grateful to Philip Hughes for helping ensure that my fingering and tablature arrangement was practical for a young performer. Three years previously, I had composed this piece originally as a trio for 2 recorders and piano (at the time Pierre was, as a 7-year-old, playing the recorder).

Computer performer (when human one is absent)

Like all the MIDI files here, it is in General MIDI form. The General MIDI patch (on the 0-127 numbering system) is:
PartGeneral MIDI patch
name#
GuitarAcoustic Guitar (Nylon)24
How it sounds will depend on your own playback software.

On my own synth I used the following patch:
PartSound ModulePatch
name#
GuitarRoland JV880Classical Guitar from the Orchestral Expansion Board (OEB)185
This is what you hear on the mp3 files.

How the MIDI file sounds depends, of course, on your playback mechanism. On my computer, MIDI files are played by the QuickTime PlugIn and the guitar sounds pretty good (though the mp3 file is better). Of course, if you have a synthesizer, you can download the MIDI file and set the instrument to your own preferred patch -- but that's more work than downloading the mp3 file.

Short excerpt:
...... Intro and first part 0:21 0.2 MB
This is a very brief piece so, in fact, this tiny intro covers the whole first half -- a somewhat mellower guitar sound.

** If you have a high-speed connection, forget about the MIDI files and just use the MP3 files (better). If you have a dial-up connection, consider the faster (but not as good) MIDI file only if the MP3 files seem to be taking too long to play or download.
