Still Winter Moon - The Words
[The overall structure is: I - II - I - II - I - Coda. The piece is a sort of manic-depressive song. Basically the Sections I are the depressive phase and the Sections II the manic phase. But the manic underlay is intended to be foreshadowed from the start by the energy of the violin. The words are divided into 6 verses, a refrain, and an 'episode'. Of course, the computer doesn't know how to sing the actual words yet.]
I
Verse 1
Still winter moon look down onto my snow-pressed fields
and say where you see the kiss of spring.
Will it ever come? The pole star chills and bush wolves howl nightly.
Verse 2
Still winter moon look down into my ice-crushed dreams
and say where my garden's still sleeping.
Will it ever wake? The gray jay shrills and I must smile lightly.
Verse 3
Still moon look down into my soul
and say I'm still asleep.
Will I ever wake? The winter stays too long this year.
II
Refrain
When spring comes, I'm going to leave here.
When spring comes, I'm leaving forever.
I
Verse 4
Still winter moon look down into my clean swept room,
my bag's packed up for the kiss of spring.
Will it ever come? The pole star chills and bush wolves howl nightly.
Episode
When it's time to go, I'll go,
I've packed my bag, my garden's in my little bag,
the bulbs and roots, my frozen flowers.
Soon it's time to go, it's time to go.
II
Refrain
When spring comes, I'm going to leave here.
When spring comes, I'm leaving forever.
I
Verse 5
Still winter moon look down onto my roadway bare
and see where I'll walk the first of spring.
Will I ever wake? The sky grows pale, soon dawn will come brightly.
Verse 6
Still winter moon look down,
look down.
I've gone.
